Machu Picchu 2 Day Tour from Cusco by Train
This proposed Machu Picchu two-day tour from Cusco combines road and train travel, one overnight in Aguas Calientes and one intended site visit on day two before returning.
This is a proposed two-day, one-night train itinerary—not two days inside the site or an Inca Trail trek. Tickets, transport, accommodation and guiding need confirmation for your dates.

Is an overnight train tour right for you?
Choose this format if you have two days available and prefer to separate the outward journey from the visit. Sleeping in Aguas Calientes puts you nearer the entrance on day two, but does not guarantee early entry, quieter paths or a longer visit.
Compare the Machu Picchu day trip for a same-day return, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu combination for valley sightseeing, or the Short Inca Trail for a hiking approach. Passing through the valley to reach a station is not a sightseeing tour. For a wider holiday rather than this two-day excursion, compare the Machu Picchu packages.
Day 1: Cusco to Aguas Calientes
The planned first day connects your starting point in Cusco with the departure station, followed by the train to Aguas Calientes, also called Machu Picchu Pueblo. The station and rail service shape the route; Cusco pickup is not necessarily a train departure from central Cusco.
The planned overnight is in Aguas Calientes. Ask how you get from the station to the hotel, how check-in works and when you receive the next day’s meeting instructions. Keep evening plans flexible until the arrival schedule is established. The where-to-stay guide compares night-before bases; a different town would be a revised itinerary, not an included alternative hotel in this proposal.
Day 2: Machu Picchu and the return to Cusco
The planned second day combines travel from Aguas Calientes to the entrance, one Machu Picchu visit and the return journey by train and road. Ask which admission ticket, entrance-bus journeys and guiding services are included, where you meet the guide and where the return transfer ends.
Allow time to complete your ticketed route, leave the site, return to town, collect any stored luggage and meet the train’s boarding requirements. Train departure is not arrival at your Cusco hotel. No fixed visit duration or return time is established here; avoid a tight onward flight based on an assumed schedule.
Tickets, circuits and a possible second visit
Your ticket determines the entry time and permitted route, not the overnight-tour label. State any Circuit 2 or viewpoint preference before booking and compare the Machu Picchu circuits. Early admission does not guarantee sunrise, clear views or an empty site.
One visit on day two is the intended scope. A second visit requires another admission. Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain requires the appropriate mountain-inclusive admission and a walking and schedule assessment, including the return train. None is an automatic addition. Compare the two mountain hikes if climbing is a priority.
An overnight stay does not create ticket availability. If your preference is sold out, compare other dates and routes before committing to trains or a room. Our sold-out ticket options explain alternatives without promising last-minute admission.
Train, hotel and private-service choices
Ask for the operator, named service and station in each direction; do not assume identical outbound and return trains or a Vistadome upgrade. The Machu Picchu train guide covers rail comparisons. For the hotel, request the property, room type, beds, occupancy and breakfast status, including whether breakfast fits the departure plan.
Ask whether “private” means private guiding, private road transfers or both. A private guide does not mean an exclusive train, shuttle bus or archaeological route. If you already have tickets or accommodation, or want to start in Ollantaytambo or Aguas Calientes, request a revised service scope rather than duplicate purchases. Travel from Lima is separate connection planning, not this tour’s starting point.
Machu Picchu 2-day tour price and inclusions
There is no fixed selling price on this page. Request an itemized quote for your dates, party and preferred services. It should distinguish admission, trains, road connections, town-to-site transport, accommodation, guiding and meals as included, excluded or optional—not assume that every component described here is included.
Check the currency, party total, any per-person basis, room supplements, taxes, payment fees and quote validity. Airport connections and luggage storage need explicit arrangements and costs; neither is promised free. Use the tour quote checklist to compare equivalent proposals.

The train avoids a trekking approach, but the site visit still involves walking, stone steps and uneven surfaces. Describe practical access needs before route selection, including transport boarding and hotel access. The Machu Picchu accessibility guide helps frame an individual assessment; the overnight format is not a blanket suitability or safety promise.
Solo travelers should ask about departure requirements, room occupancy and supplements. Families should share children’s ages and room preferences so seating, admission documents and walking demands can be assessed. Allow separate time for arrival and Cusco altitude preparation; seek individual clinical advice for medical concerns.
Weather and packing for one overnight
Pack for one overnight with layers, rain protection, grippy footwear, sun protection and personal essentials. Rain or cloud can affect views in any season; consult the Machu Picchu weather guide and check the forecast near departure.
Check the booked carrier’s current baggage allowance separately from the site’s bag and equipment rules. If larger bags stay behind, establish the storage location, charge, opening hours and collection plan—including overnight bags on day two. Keep travel documents and medication accessible. Review the luggage storage guide and entry rules.
Request your two-day tour quote
Send preferred dates, traveler count, starting area and room preferences. Mention date flexibility, guide language, relevant walking needs or existing ticket date, route and entry time. No passport copies, payment-card information or detailed medical records are needed for the initial enquiry.
Before payment, obtain the proposed itinerary, itemized total, confirmation process and applicable deposit, balance, cancellation, refund and date-change terms. These operating terms are not established here. An enquiry does not reserve admission, train seats or accommodation.
Ask who contacts you if transport or admission changes, how revisions are approved and which costs apply. Keep meeting instructions and travel contacts together; see disruption planning.
Check my dates on WhatsAppMachu Picchu overnight tour: questions
Does a two-day tour mean two days inside Machu Picchu?
No. This proposed format has an outbound travel day, one Aguas Calientes overnight and one intended visit on day two. Arrival and preparation time in Cusco are separate from these two days.
How much does the Machu Picchu 2-day tour cost?
Request a date-specific itemized quote. There is no fixed selling price here; the total depends on the agreed admission, rail services, room basis, guiding and connections. Review currency, fees, inclusions and booking terms together.
Are trains, the hotel and entry ticket included?
These are proposed components; this page does not establish that they are included. Your quote should name each included service and identify anything you arrange or pay for separately, including meals and local connections.
Can I request Circuit 2 or early entry?
Yes, as preferences for an availability check. Neither is secured by the overnight stay. The ticket must identify the actual route and entry time; viewpoints and visibility should not be assumed.
Can I visit Machu Picchu on both days?
A visit on both days would need a separately assessed itinerary; the baseline is one visit on day two. Feasibility depends on arrival timing, admission availability, guiding and return connections.
Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain?
Neither mountain is included automatically. Request an assessment of the appropriate mountain-inclusive admission, availability, walking requirements and schedule before an ascent can be confirmed. Any addition must fit the return journey.
Is this a private tour?
Not automatically. Ask whether the proposed private service covers guiding, road transfers or both, and which parts remain shared or scheduled. It does not imply exclusive train travel or site access.
What time do the trains leave and when do we reach Cusco?
No fixed departures are established here. Your date-specific itinerary should name both rail services, their stations, pickup instructions and the expected final drop-off window. Return-train departure is not Cusco arrival.
How long should I allow between the visit and return train?
There is no single margin for every booking. Plan the circuit, exit, descent to town, luggage collection and the carrier’s boarding requirements together; do not rely on the quickest visitor account.
Can solo travelers or families request this trip?
Yes. Solo travelers should request departure and room-occupancy conditions. Families should provide children’s ages and room needs for an assessment of admission, seating and walking requirements; discounts and room configurations are not promised.
Is the train tour suitable for limited mobility?
A train journey removes the trekking approach, not steps or uneven terrain. Ask for an individual assessment of the proposed circuit, station and bus boarding, hotel access and any assistance needed before booking.
How much luggage can I take, and is storage free?
Use the current allowance for the specific rail service and check site restrictions separately. Storage is not promised available or free: establish who provides it, the cost, opening hours and collection arrangements.
Can I start elsewhere or use tickets and a hotel I already booked?
Request a revised proposal for an Ollantaytambo or Aguas Calientes start, or for the services you still need. Share existing ticket dates, route and entry time initially, not document copies. Compatibility and any price adjustment need assessment.
Is this the two-day Inca Trail?
No. This is a road-and-train journey with a town overnight. The Short Inca Trail is the separate hiking product with different permit, itinerary and preparation requirements.
What happens if my plans change or transport is disrupted?
Obtain the applicable cancellation, refund and change terms, travel contact and revision-approval process before payment. This page does not establish those policies; free changes, refunds and replacement services should not be assumed.
Still have a question?
Dates, room needs and existing tickets for your proposed journey.
